Cable Lateral Raise

Cable lateral raises provide constant tension throughout the range of motion, unlike dumbbells where tension decreases at the bottom. Stand sideways to a low cable and raise the handle out to shoulder height.

How to Perform

1

Stand sideways to a low cable, holding the handle in the far hand.

2

Raise your arm out to the side until it is parallel with the floor.

3

Lead with your elbow and keep a slight bend throughout.

4

Lower slowly — fight the cable on the way down.

5

Keep your torso still and avoid leaning away from the cable.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Leaning too far away, which uses body weight momentum.

Going too heavy and shrugging the traps.

Letting the cable pull your arm down without control.
