Dumbbell Scaption
Scaption is a shoulder raise performed in the scapular plane — roughly 30 degrees in front of the body. This angle is more natural for the shoulder joint than a strict lateral or front raise and builds well-rounded deltoid development.
How to Perform
Stand with dumbbells at your sides, thumbs pointing slightly upward.
Raise your arms in the scapular plane — about 30 degrees forward from a straight lateral raise.
Lift until your hands reach shoulder height, keeping a slight elbow bend.
Lower slowly with control, avoiding any swinging or momentum.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Raising the arms too far forward (turning it into a front raise) or too far to the side (lateral raise).
Going above shoulder height, which impinges the supraspinatus tendon.
Using too much weight, which forces compensatory body swinging.
